Caswell Octavious Whyte was born on December 24, 1934, in Cave, Westmoreland, Jamaica West Indies to Adelyn Walker and Clarence Whyte. He passed away on May 10, 2024, in Clermont, Florida. Caswell was raised by his loving grandmother, Katie, in Cave where he attended public school. One of his earliest jobs was working for Public Works of Jamaica in a supervisory role purchasing lands in rural areas to build roads. He was also an entrepreneur owning a restaurant and club. Caswell was also heavily involved with Jamaican politics where he was a speaker for the People’s National Party. While in this role he met Daphne (Donaldson) Whyte whom he married in May of 1960. They had 4 children, Beverley Joyner (spouse Bernard Joyner), Caswell Whyte Jr (spouse Ann Marie Whyte), Yvonne Lowe, and the late Michelle Whyte Anderson. Caswell also had a son, Charles Whyte, a daughter, Sharon Whyte Ilori (spouse Michael Ilori), and a brother Nehemiah “Harvey” Whyte (spouse Leah “Chi Chi” Whyte). He had 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. In 1980, Caswell migrated to the United States and lived in the DC/Maryland area where he worked as an entrepreneur. After 32 years of marriage, Caswell was separated and eventually divorced and soon after he married the late Virginia Wylie. Caswell relocated to Lakeland Florida in 2016. His leisure time was spent watching and following American politics closely, along with watching his favorite football team the Washington Commanders (formerly the Redskins). Caswell will be cherished by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He will be missed by family and friends.
