Robert J Godwin Jr. Obituary

In Loving Memory of Robert J. Godwin Jr.
October 5, 1971 – May 24, 2025

Robert “Bob” J. Godwin Jr., age 53, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 24, 2025. Born on October 5, 1971, Bob lived a life marked by devotion—to his faith, his family, and his community.

Bob is lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 30 years, Dawn Godwin, and their cherished daughter, Megan Simpson, and her husband Travis. He is also survived by his brother Steve (Hilda) Lupkey, and Steve’s children Brianne, Donna, Aaron, Cindy, April, and Donald; and by his sister-in-law Debbie Lupkey and her daughters Karen and Louise.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother and father, Donna and Robert J. Godwin Sr., and his brother Gary Lupkey.

A faithful member of Aloma Church, Bob lived out his Christian values in word and deed. He was a man of great integrity, compassion, and joy, whose humor—especially his legendary dad jokes—brought smiles to all who knew him.

Bob had a rich and varied career, always fueled by an entrepreneurial spirit. He began with a lawn mower repair and DJ business, then built a thriving vending company. After moving to Florida, he worked alongside his brother in the car industry before founding JJ Auto Sales, a successful retail car business in South Carolina. Most recently, he served as a trusted realtor with Preferred Shore, helping families find homes with care and honesty.

More than anything, Bob treasured his role as Dad. His greatest joy was being present and involved in Megan’s life. He also loved traveling, beach days, watching TV with Dawn, playing games, and serving on mission trips to Cuba, where he shared Christ’s love in tangible ways.

Bob always said he didn’t want his passing to be a time of sorrow, but a celebration—a joyful remembrance of the life he lived and the eternal life he now embraces. In that spirit, the family warmly invites all who attend to wear floral or colorful shirts in honor of Bob’s bright personality and his desire for this day to reflect joy and hope.

His Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Aloma Church (Boatwright Center), 1815 SR 436 S, Winter Park, FL 32792. The public viewing will begin at 10:30 AM, followed by the service at 11:20 AM. A reception will follow immediately.

In light of Bob’s unexpected passing, and in lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for donations to support Dawn and her family during this time. Contributions may be made via Zelle to 772-285-7391.

Bob’s legacy of faith, laughter, and love will live on in every life he touched. He fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7). We celebrate that he is now rejoicing in the presence of Jesus—whole, healed, and home.
